Innovation Systems and Clusters

We understand innovation as a process of structural change that covers technological, institutional and organisational aspects. The specific design of innovation systems is relevant for the generation and dynamics of innovation both on regional, national and international (and transnational) level. Especially a dense interaction and co-operation among companies, research organisations and educational institutions can be an ideal medium for innovation. Thus Clusters and Networks are important and effective instruments for the promotion of innovation, development of economy and business as well as of location-specific marketing. The Institute of Innovation and Technology offers services for innovation systems and clusters, ranging from the support of accompanying measures, through their initiation and dynamic development up to the level of assessment and evaluation.

Our Areas of Competence

With our fields of activity – Research Funding, Technology Policy and Innovation Management – we cover the entire spectrum of the innovation process, from research through application all the way to the introduction and use of new technologies. Accordingly, we are able to evaluate and consider the relevant aspects of innovation systems and cluster structures in their specific geographic, branch- and technology-oriented contexts.

In terms of a holistic approach we act – as need be – as analysts, evaluators, companions, moderators or designers of innovative systems and clusters, always in close coordination with our clients and customers. Therefore, we utilise our broad range of technological and socio-economic expertise and offer problem-oriented analyses, scientific expert advice and support for practical implementation. Especially for public customers on national and transnational levels, we author adequate studies and evaluations and offer practical support for the development and coordination of clusters, networks and innovation systems.
