Local (business) policy often plays a crucial role in innovation processes. These policies mark boundaries, open possibilities for the formation and implementation of businesses and determine factors for future development. With their new study on local tax rates and political influencing of locally dominant firms, Ivo Bischoff and iit-Expert Stefan Krabel now change this perspective. “Local taxes and political influence: evidence from locally dominant firms in German municipalities” focuses on the analysis of political power with regard to business tax rates. The central proposition of their work: the higher the tax-payers’ concentration, the lower the municipal business tax rates. The thesis is supported by data from 423 municipalities in the German state Hesse between 1998 and 2005.
