Effects of digitisation on value creation and the labour market

The study commissioned by the VDI analyses the effects of digitisation on value creation and economic growth as well as on the labour market in Germany based on existing technical literature. It shows the relationship between ICT and economic growth, the effects of Industry 4.0 on value creation and the level of necessary investment in Industry 4.0, and the growth effects of broadband expansion. With regard to the changes in the world of work and the labour market as a result of digitisation and Industry 4.0, the study addresses the debate about a polarisation of the labour market and places this in the context of competence profiles and qualifications as well as employment trends in the ICT sector and manufacturing industry.
